Can you help identify this dangling hose?

So my wife called me and asked me about the hose dangling under the 4runner in the garage... Unfortunately, even after having her send me pics I still have no idea. She says it seems 'clean', no noticeable residue or the like.

View from the rear:

Where the hose seems to come from-this is a shot looking towards the front of the vehicle, and the dangling hose is one of the center two hoses.

My wife thinks that it may have gone to this box which sits behind the axle.

I had the rear diff locker replaced a couple weeks ago and it's not been driven more than 10-15 miles since I got it home, so I'm guessing it is related to that.

Anyways, any ideas as to what it is and what I need to do to get it fixed?

I didn't, and it wasn't listed on the sale ad (I just double checked), but it is possible. If that were the case I thought that the hose would be a bit shorter though-as it would just be going to the front side of the diff-and this would leave quite a bit of slack.

I also haven't seen the top of any diff breather relocation mod, but there's so many places to hide that that it's entirely possible those are in place.

Still, entirely possible-and I'll definitely try to look at the diff breather when I get home tomorrow. I'm hoping this is it as that looks like an easy fix.

I would think diff breather as well, can't see with the track bar in the way of where it would attach the diff in your first pic but I also don't see another line coming off of it. It's a common early on mod to do, I'd assume anyone with a diff skid would have one! They are usually left long with a loop so when the axle droops they don't get pulled off, similar to how those brake lines to the left of the diff have an S in them to extend.

Is it an air locker or an e-locker in the rear? I can't remember what you had. Check your diff and look at the breather tube. You'll be able to tell real quick whether you had the breather extended or not. Barring that, could be the air line if your locker is an air locker. Is it disconnected on both sides or can you follow it and see where it leads?

Looks like a hose for the charcoal canister came loose. Line goes from the fuel tank to the referenced box. If you haven't already you will get a code for the EVAP system. It purpose is to capture fuel vapors from escaping into the atmosphere and recirculate it to the gas tank or possibly straight to the engine intake. It should also be addressed as it has the potential to leak gas.

Thats the fuel vapor canister, possible the breather line has come off and that is what you are seeing.

Poked my head under the back of the t4r and my evap canister looks the same as the pic. Nothing missing.

my votes for ext breather or locker.

That's not the type of line you use for airlockers. Looks like a diff breather line, so check the top of your pumpkin on the left side there should be a little filter or a barb where that line connects to.

Dude it looks like your panhard/trac bar is bent, might want to check that out.

OK, so it seems it was the hose from the previous air locker:

Big props to James from The Truck Shop who helped me out-called me up after I emailed him, had me text him photos and let me know what was what.

For reference, the old locker was improperly installed (the rear diff was making clicking noises, which was exciting), so James and his shop diagnosed it, and replaced the rear locker -- and also added a front locker while they were at it. They then tucked the hose up in case I wanted to re-use it in the future, and were kind enough to drop my 4runner back off in my driveway while I was out of town. The only downside was that since I was out of town I didn't get to talk to them when picking it up like I normally would have.

Also, it seems I was completely wrong about not having diff breathers-they are there. Somehow, despite redoing the suspension, putting in new rear brake lines, taking the rear diff skid on and off a couple times I completely missed them. That hose is more flexible than this hose-but they look similar.

The hose also looks like the hose that goes into the middle of the EVAP canister, but again, that was still attached.

Anyways, thank you all for the assistance. Most people aren't going to have an extra hose in there that isn't attached to anything, but I did.

Huh. Pic does look a bit odd. Looked OK when I was in the garage a bit ago though. I think it's just the angle of the pic and the hose across it. I'll take another look at it tomorrow though.
