If you haven't heard of these products I suggest you give them a shot. I started doing self detail stuff about 3 years ago when I bought my first Porter Cable DA 7424 and some Lake County CCS pads. I tought myself with videos and such online from Autogeek.net and had decent results with meguires off the shelf products (clay/cleaner wax/polish/wax).
As I got better and more confident I ventured into better products and was turned onto Chemical Guys from a detailer that did my boat one year. He recommended a few products which I used and they did good but one of the biggest problems I've found is cleaning the pads, it was a total pain and I couldn't justify spending $120 for a professional pad washer. Especially since it's a frigging 5 gal home depot bucket with a spinner thing in it.
Then i neglected my cars for about a year since I was traveling for work a ton, and had a pregnant wife at home. Free time for car maint was non existent. Until finally I had enough since my black G35 looked like a$$. I went back to Chemical Guys site to order new pads and check out their new products and I stumbled across their new "V" line of products. All I can say is wow it can't really be this easy!
I watched some of their videos on the website and thought It was worth a shot. This one in particular How To Remove Swirls, Scratches & Polish Paint with the Porter Cable 7424XP - Chemical Guys - YouTubeIt was following the basic 5 steps so nothing out of the ordinary except that each level of paint correcting compound finishes to a polish ready state. Other products you need to go up each level of correction polish to prepare for final polish. Much like using each grade of sandpaper from rough to somooth to complete the finish.
SO, I bought the V36, V38, and Black wax along with Orange/White/Grey 5.5 inch pads for my PC DA 7424. I followed the directions exactly as it said and my cars came out AMAZING, super easy no streaks, residue, or dust like I"ve had with other products. 5 pea size drops on the pad, spread over 2x2 area, work at high speed and wipe right off. And I mean wipe right off! ZERO residue as I've had with other greasy products.
BUT THE BEST PART which I didn't even realize until I went to wash my pads is that the polish is WATER BASED! My pads washed out in MINUTES by just running and agitating under warm water. I did two cars with my pads and they still look like new, simple wash out was easy. No nasty caked up pads. Finally a super easy to use product that ANYONE can do and easy clean up.
Now having said that, the V36 got out all the Minor swirls and scratches but I sill have some deeper scratches that will require more work so I purchased the V34 along with a yellow pad for the heavier scratches. I have yet to try the v36 but I'll follow up on here when I do. I plan on trying it on my bush scratches on my black 4runner too. Why not keep her clean and shiny as long as possible
Oh and a week later....
Also after my initial order and success I decided to try some of their other products and purchased the "clay block" and lube kit which is a resuable cleanable claybar system that uses like a rubber foam. I have yet to use it since I orderd it after I used my old school clay but it looks promising, I also orderd the "Gel black forever" and put it on all my exterior plastics and they look brand new.
Just thought I'd share a good experience with a great product and hopefully save someone else time and restore their rig.
