Coastal Offroad Front Bumper For A 5th gen

I didn't see a thread specifically for their 5th gen front, so I thought I'd make one for anyone who's interested. I really liked the customer service, price and quality of the rear bumper kit from [MENTION=39123]coastal[/MENTION]Offroad, so I ordered up a front to match it. Welded it out and finally mounted my TRDfeaux grill today in between rain storms.

I just saw your post on the TX 4Runner FB group. Front and rear bumpers are looking good.

I'd get there front bumper kit but I don't have the space or a welder for their kit.

Yeah, I really like the rear bumper design, but neither me nor anyone I know has the skills/equipment to put it together.

I have no idea how much time and effort it takes to assemble, anyone have a clue what a shop would charge? Not sure it's really much of a price break if I go that route though, especially after paying for the PC to top it off.

My guess would be anywhere around $500-$700? It would depend on the fabricator and their rate.

It would come out more cost effective ordering a Shrockworks bumper and waiting for it to be done if you can't weld it yourself.

Guess I'm not good at searching this forum, everything I found was about the rear bumper.

Oh man this might make the do-I-really-need-it vs omg-so-much-money equation balance out.

Anyone have thoughts on the rear bumper? Would love to go with Aluminum for weight savings, but kinda pushes it into the pre-assembled territory of a C4Fab Overland. Thoughts on overall quality of build, any issues or compromises?

The only reason I could see them not being at the top of everyone's list is if you cannot weld or know someone who can that would help you at a reasonable price. If you were paying a shop $150+/hour I could see the only benefit being it's shipped in 3-5 business days usually versus waiting 8-12 weeks to receive them.

I like the rear a lot as well, but didn't see the savings in the tire carrier kit. Just go to your local steel supply and grab some square tubing, order some Destaco clamps on amazon or a nice latch from 4xInnovations, a tire mount plate from any of the dozen vendors out there (RuffStuff Specialties/Motobilt/Low Range Offroad/DIY4X/4xInnovations) and a spare tire hinge from any of the same vendors above. You'll spend the same or possibly less, but have a way nicer end product. I used parts I had laying on a shelf from past buggy builds, so I only had to buy a few feet of square tubing.

I've built many things big and small over the years, but never dipped my toes in welding, really not for any reason than not had enough cause. Welding aluminum is (?) just a bit trickier with specialized equipment that I might go with the steel - cost too. New to my area so don't have any friends who weld (or friends in general, <sniff> lol).

Probably only the rear bumper, like C4Fab's lo-profile front. Appreciate the tips on the carrier.

I have been contemplating the Coastal Bumper. Outside of trimming the plastic bumper. Did you have to trim anything else to mount the front bumper?

The small ac line on the passenger side gets pushed back about 1/2". There is a small cut out for it, but just to be sure it never gets a pin hole rubbed in it, I pushed it back a tad. I'm not sure if the steering line is "in the way" or not, but I got rid of it before mounting the bumper. It hangs way out on each side, and I noticed one of the hoses was dry rotting. I took the entire thing off from steering box to reservoir and replaced it with 7' of 3/8 steering hose for a much cleaner look. This also keeps it from hanging out on the sides and getting hit by a rock.

A good friend of mine welded my front bumper yesterday. Opted for the triple hoop design. He made a few very slight modifications - added some extra notching around the AC line (already notched and we did bend the line a little but added extra room to be safe) as well as angled the center hoop forward slightly. Didn't have time for paint but will be knocking that out as well as lights this week.

About the last pic - the upper grille is crooked, bumper is level.

My buddy just finished putting together his Coastal dual swing-out on his GX470, pretty much the same bumper for the 5th gen. It was quite the undertaking. Getting it tacked up was easy but he had to tinker around with a few things to get the bumper to his preference. Now it's ready for powder coating.
