I just moved here and I am looking for a place to take the family camping, hiking and a little trail riding. Plus I would like to know someone here....

Also worth mentioning, I built a couple new guns this year I want to go shoot, but they may not be suitable for a normal range, so I need a good outdoor shooting spot.

Take them to the Ohio Power ReCreation Land down near McConnelsville. It's tons of acres of reclaimed strip mines that now is pine forests, lakes, and trails. You can camp, fish, hike, and four-wheel out there. Just follow I-70 east to Hwy 60 (at Zanesville) following the Muskingum River, head south to McConnelsville, then east just a short piece. Burr Oak is another nice place in that general vicinity.

If you go to ReCreation Land, just call the Forest Service and get their no-fee permit for the camping/campfire part beforehand. Doesn't cost anything--they just want your name on file so they have some accountability for the place. There are actually many nice parks in Ohio with similar amenities. The southeast quarter is particularly nice, as you're getting into the Appalachian foothills. The Hocking Hills region near Logan is an old favorite, with many smaller parks connected with great scenic backroads. Enjoy!
