Wrong and wrong.
Wider wheels hold aired down tires better, if the natural tire width is wider than the rim, as most offroad tires are.
And the weight difference is much less. Early reports of trail/offroad wheels were inaccurate. They're only 2-3 lbs heavier than TRD Pro, with the added weight being for strength and stem protection.
My theory is not just offset and width protection from interference - it's that Toyota wanted clearance inside the wheel for the various 3rd party coilover makers they planned to partner with for the Pro before knowing if theyd run into problems.
The TRD wheel has a different offset that widens the vehicle's overall track by about an inch. Because of this, they most likely chose a narrower wheel to minimize the chances of rubbing. Shortly after the TRDPs release in 2015, Toyota issued a TSB and started shaving their fenders at the port due to some having clearance issues.

EDIT: Also, the TRD wheels weren't intended to be exclusive to the TRD Pro. First and foremost, they were designed as an OEM accessory that needs to fit all trims with no additional modifications required.
when you say a small front lift...are you implying that the TRD pro wheels actually lift the car? obviously thats not the case so i'm not following....
