Considering 2004 4runner Limited V8 4WD

I have been searching for another 4Runner, and have a buddy who owns a small car lot here in Texas. He recently bought a 2004 Limited V8 w/ 215k miles at auction and is going thru it now to ensure it doesn't have any mechanical issues.

Here are the pics he sent me, I haven't actually went and looked at it yet, but this is what I was wanting


I have read thru the forums and know that the timing belt needs to be done on the V8s. I have looked at the purchasing guides, and such, just wondering what you guys suggest looking for. It is a TX car, so rust shouldn't be an issue, but normal stuff like suspension, 4wd, axles, etc.

With that many miles and limited maintenance/repair history prepare to do some maintenance up front. Timing belt, water pump, seals for sure. All other fluids after that. Check suspension, CV boots, brakes, radiator. It it's green instead of black, it does not have much life left. Heater cores, blower motors don't last forever and are a pain to change out. If you're unfamiliar with autos, might be worth it to pay for an pre purchase inspection if your friend is not going to do it. If he did, ask to see the result. Could save you a ton of money. Good luck and hope it works out.

Make sure you can lock the center diff and put it in low range.

Those get stuck sometimes and its big money to fix.

Thanks, yea I will check it out. I am mechanically inclined, work on my own vehicles. Appreciate the guidance.

Pulled the trigger, they are replacing timing belt, pulleys, serpentine belt, water pump and painting the rear hatch.

I have purchased a few things to get started:

Weathertech floormats
rear spoiler and LED light
smoker's ashtray kit
USB charging ports
windshield wipers
Transferring Kenwood Stereo from another vehicle

I will as soon as I get it back, I have these parts and want to get started installing, but have to wait patiently for the car to come back from mechanic and paint.
