Well I have spent the last several hours under my truck trying to trace a coolant leak that sprung from out of nowhere. I have a 94 4Runner 3.0l V6 4WD...It has over 130K miles and was running strong...The other day my wife was driving my truck...90+ degree Day...and called me to tell me that the truck left a puddle of something on the ground. I check it out and it is coolant. The puddle location is from the back of the engine the fluid is dripping off the thransmission...I traced it out as far as I could and the leak looks like it is coming from above the oilpan on the passenger side. My first thought was freeze plug as the intake manifol gasket looks dry, but I am not sure..it is a random spot and I am stumped..I cant see any fluid originating on the one visible freeze plug on that side...I dont know what to think at this point...Any Ideas???

Godo luck with that... I have found coolant leaks notoriously hard to locate on some of my previous cars. First suggestion... check the water pump (no idea where it is on your truck, however, so I could be way off). I've never had leaky hoses but twice have had leaks from the pump just before it failed.
Well it doesnt matter at this point, I took it in to Toyota and had it pressure tested and this is the diagnosis
"Found Cylinder Head Gasket leaking internally, causing external leaks from head gasket, heater hoses, etc.....reccomended repair: replace motor"
wow I tell you I am a bit disappointed. I have reciepts from every preventative maintenace that needed to be done and this truck made it 147K. I am not very pleased with Toyota one bit.

Was the head Gaskets ever done under the recall?
And do you have the heater for the rear passengers?
If so you know there are lines that run to the rear that have been known to leak coolent.
Toyota.... if I were you I would take to another shop not Toyota for a 2nd opinion
Was a compression test done? what were the results etc.

Hi there, any update on this one? Have you already resolved the leaking problem? I am not a pro but i think my truck also has a lead with the cylinder head gasket. I am using the Felpro and planning to replace that if that was the problem.
