CVJ Axle Boot Breather Tube?

Hey all,

I replaced my rebuilt CV axles (me and another forum member rebuilt them with CVJ silicone and neoprene boots) a few thousand miles ago with another set of CVJ axles. This time I didn't do the rebuild because it's a pain and I got the experience of doing it once before.

The guy that was helping me out when I was picking them up mentioned that they have a breather tube now to help adjust the boot bellows. I don't remember if he said that I should remove it though once they're adjusted. Anyone have any ideas? I was going to give them a call but just thought I'd throw this out there since I know other T4R members use CVJ axles.

Also curious if my bellows are too close to each other before I pull the tubes out. I have to take new pictures because I can't find the ones I took a few months ago to post.

To my recollection the tubes are for shipping. High to low altitudes or vice versa can make bubbles. I remember them telling me to install the axles - then remove breathers.

Your bellows on new axles shouldnt need adjusting unless you want to extend the boot further.

Ah...crap. I'll do that today then. Also, yeah, I was wondering if I need to extend the boots further because of the angle my CVs are at. CVJ said it was borderline looking at my old ones when they were still on the truck, and they gave me two extra bands in case I need to snip the ones on there and extend them. I need to grab a picture or two, but won't extending the bellows be easier if I leave the breather tube in?
