Diff lockers with a V8 AWD?

Hello all,
I will be selling my 85 4Runner that you see in the street, to fund a "mild" build on my 2007 Sport Edition V8. This rig has AWD. My plan is to add ARB's in both the FRONT and REAR diffs. Will there be any issues that I could run into if I also "lock" my transfer case. ONLY off road of coarse.

Also, the gear code on the door is A01A, but all other research tells me that they are 3.73's. Should I assume the 3.73's? I may want to go with 4.10's if I end up with 285/70 R17 anyways.

Thanks!

Nice rides! You won't have any issues with the ARB's. My buddy aha2988 is locked front and rear with no issues. I'll be installing my rear locker Saturday. People run lockers on these rigs without any issues. Our V8's don't really function any different then the muli-mode V6's in 4WD, It's just that they have a 2WD option. They all have Center Diff Locks. So triple lock away when you need the traction.

Yeah, should be 3.73 gears for the V8. Finding 4.10, 4.11 gearing is doable, but a little harder for us. I think the more common offerings are 4.56 & 4.88. You can also find 5.29 and 5.71. But 4.11 would get your speedo perfect for 33's. Check out East Coast Gear Supply for your needs if you haven't already. You can buy fully built 3rd members from them.

Hope that helps. Good luck!

Thanks Superman!
An entire diff may be the way to go. More $$$, but by the time you add up locker, gears, set-up kit, labor....starts adding up.

I wish I was close enough to ya to purchase your older 4r! looks sweet.

When I went through the ordeal with gears and lockers, pricing out all the gears, master install kits, gear oil, seals, the works it was more costly to purchase individually than it was to purchase already built and ready to go in by ECGS. I saved about a grand or so by buying already built.

FWIW, the 4.56's run really well with 33's I could go up to a 34 and get a little better mpg's but the truck has a lot of ass out of the hole and doesn't bounce between gears on the highway. I've enjoyed the purchase very much.

Hey i have an 06 4runner sport as well. Can you tell me the rear lockers that you purchased? I wanted to buy rear lockers for mine as well. Ive tried researching but everything led to v6 is the only ones they made. Please help. Thank you. :D

The "V6" diff is just the name of the rear diff Toyota uses in just about every 4Runner, FJ, Tacoma up until some of the newer models. (And V8 4Rs are not exclusive to the "Sport" package like it sounded like you meant)
