Diff Oil on speed sensors?

99 limited, toytec lift, 1" BL with bilstiens on 285s

I have a persistent ABS issue where it will activate at every stop around 5mph, regardless of the terrain. It's basically the worst thing ever. The ABS light is not on, so no codes to read.

I've replaced the front wheel speed sensors with known working used ones.

Today I went to clean the rear speed sensors before replacing them with known working used ones, and during the PITA removal process, both my rear sensors were coated in gear oil upon removal.

Clearly this should not be this way. Am i looking at axle seals soon? I know the PO put in a new rear axle about 2 years ago due to rebuilding the diff lock. I have the diff breather mod too.

Cleaning them and reinstalling them did not solve the issue, I have not put the new ones in until I know I'm in the clear.

Any ideas?

I have a replacement used pump which might be my next option...

I hate that the ABS light is on my dash.

Yeah you need new rear axle seals. Check out the informational sticky at the top of the 3rd gen page and read Bigfishallday's step by step instructional on how to do the rear seals, his instructions are priceless and make the job super easy

Before you replace the axle seals, see if your rear diff breather is clogged. A clogged diff breather will cause pressure to build up in the axle housing and puke gear oil out past the seals.

If there is any doubt it is clogged, just replace it. Better yet, do the extended rear diff breather mod. It costs maybe 25 bucks to do the mod.

Don't get me wrong, your seals may actually be shot but check the diff breather first.

EDIT: sorry, I missed the part where you said you already did the breather mod. If the breather is working fine then it is probably time for axle seals.

The Big Fish write-up is awesome indeed. looks like I'm catching it in time before it gets past the outer seal and into the brakes.

But any further thoughts on the ABS thing? If all 4 sensors are good whats my next step?
