difference in the motors

I'm replacing my 3.4l 3vz-fe motor in my '99, but i dont kno what the difference is between the federal emissions and the california emissions motor? and what is the difference in the motor built before 1/99 and the motor built after?

Few things, it's a 5VZ-FE, not a 3VZ-FE. Make sure you bought the right engine. Look under the hood at the emissions sticker: it will either say California Emissions or Federal/49 States Emissions. If you can't find the sticker, look underneath it. A Cali Emissions truck will have two cats, a Federal Vehicle will only have one cat.

As far as I know, no difference in motors before or after 1/99. The throttle body, and a few cables/accessories may be different but easily swapped from the original engine.

Different Maf on the pre 01/99 models I believe.
