Do you guys change oil weights for winter?

I was running 0w-30 in the summer and put 5w-30 in for the winter. I think in colder climates some people run 5w-40 in the winter.

Hmm, logic says to use a heavier oil in warmer months, and a lighter oil in cold months.

Personally, I'll use 10-30 in the summer and 5-30 in winter. Probably unnecessary to switch, but it's what I do.

I use 10w30 all year. I live in Hawaii so it doesn't get cold in the winter like up in the mainland US. If it got cold enough though I would switch.

5w30 all year in the runner. I run 5w40 in my 6.0 powerstrokes during the winter though to help with cold starts rather then 15w40 like when its warm out\

Lighter oil is better when its cold out cause it flows better then the thicker weight oil and will lubricate everything faster upon start up. Thick oil only gets thicker when its cold and takes longer to thin out.

Reading the weight code of oil
5w30
5 is the "winter" cold range weight,
w is "winter" not weight,
30 is the warm oil range weight.

Run the weight that is specified from the manufacturer.
Modern engines have tighter tolerances than older vintage engines.
Using a heaver oil is not better.
Running a heavier oil can actually damage engines because it may not be able to properly lubricate into the tight areas.

I lways use what the manufacturer recommends. The 3.4 is 5w30.

10w30 high mileage (im at 225k) conventional all year round, never had any problems.
