A closed internet or not allowing foreign servers (Google, Apple) allows government to monitor everything their citizens do without foreign interference. And this is why foreign VPN is banned in China.

I don't think he's suggesting that one is at fault while the other is guilt free. We can all agree that the US does engage in mass surveillance and limited censorship ; whether or not that's warranted and to what extent is a separate debate. There are also many other governments which engage in much more severe forms of censorship and far stricter mass surveillance (let's just use North Korea as a really obvious example). One being worse than the other does not suddenly absolve the sins of either, but neither does the fact that both engage in similar behaviors mean that they have the same goals. History has shown us that we should always keep an eye on the ones who watch over us... after all we're just human and a little bit of power can really go to our head. The "I have nothing to hide" argument is a weak one.

I'm not laughing......So I looked into it and it would cost me a little over $150 to trade this phone for the cheapest phone (moto x4) that Google Fi has available. I have my service through google fi. It won't even be their best phone which is what this Nexus 6p was at the time I purchased it. So I don't have that kind of money right now and again this Nexus is working great now for over a year and half. Also as said it's a high quality phone and the Moto is good but not this good. When the Nexus dies I will get a non Huawei phone. Who knows when that will happen??? This is a good phone.

$150 may be generous of that phone...i would take that offer! I believe Google no longer offers warranty on that phone.

Google Fi will give me $138 for my Nexus 6p that is currently functioning perfectly. Battery still lasts and everything. So it would cost me another $150 plus for a, not near as good as this nexus, Moto X4. I paid around $600 for this Nexus a year and a half ago. When it dies I will get a different phone.

And again I don't use my phone for anything except calls, texts, and the occasional youtube video watch. i don't even have a FaKebook acct. I'm not worried about it but as said will change from Huawei when this one dies.

Not only do 'they' have the capability to 'see' your personal info, browsing history or phone/text message...but they can invade your privacy.

Think about it...phones now have GPS capability...they know where your are...correction...they know where your phone is. Hell, my wife's phone and mine are link so that I know exactly where her phone is...and vice versa.

The camera...don't you think that they could remotely active it...see where you are, what you are doing, what you are photographing, etc.

Yes, just about all governments in some form or fashion 'track' their citizens...but I think the point here is what or who handles the information collected and how it is handled and stored.

Given a choice, who would you trust more...which ones are more likely to be corrupted?

On a side note...A poll was once taken asking who do you fear more...the US Government or the mafia.

Surprisingly, more people feared the government...the mafia will just kill you and be done with it...the government...will ruin your life.
