Engine Removal Question: Worth Pulling Transmission With it?

Pulling the last few parts from my part-out, the engine and transmission. It's a 2WD so no transfer case up front. Am I crazy to try to pull as one unit? There's not much documentation on it, but after reading about getting to those silly flywheel and bell housing bolts it might just be easier... I would also need to separate the transmission and engine once it's pulled as well so one more thing to consider.

I'm just a backyard DIY'er with an engine hoist and air tools, nothing too crazy.

Pulled it last evening. Everything went smooth until it didn't, lol. I had my strap attached to the front of the header and couldn't get enough clearance over the front frame, and that's with the much smaller 2WD transmission. It was stuck in the trasmission tunnel so I had to cut the front frame to get it out.

Also, the HF 1 ton is a little too small for an SUV. I had it on the 3/4 ton setting to give me about 4 more inches of reach but it wasn't enough. I think that for a 4WD or a vehicle in which cutting the frame is not an option (it's a junker) for removal/replacement, then you will most definitely have to remove the transmission first as well as air down the front tires.

Did you try putting wheel chocks on the fronts and jacking the back end up? It should make pulling as a pair slightly easier.

I didn't, since it was much easier to just cut the frame. Someone is buying the shell of a 4runner for the body so wasn't a big deal at all and made life very easy.

I think that if I do this again in a vehicle I'm keeping I'll try airing down the front tires a little and lifting the rear to get a better angle.
