I doubt you.ll be "refreshing" your transmission unless you are a trained mechanic.
It is reasonably difficult to rebuild an engine unless you know what your doing, it is very difficult to rebuild an automatic transmission unless you know what your doing. Not trying to be rude and maybe I have underestimated your skill level but generally speaking someone who would be capable of doing these things usually doesn't have to ask where to get the parts/gaskets/clutches/steels/ect. in order to do the job.
I know I made that mistake years ago. I figured that an automatic couldn't be that hard to rebuild. I did a fine job of tearing it down, had a few problems getting it back together so had to ask a friend who works on them to help. I have since learned a good bit more and still I wouldn't want to be rebuilding a transmission if my runner was in need of it right then.
I would get one out of a junk yard to rebuild, do it up and put it in, if you have done your job right then your good to go. If not, well pop the original back in and count the failure as a learning experience and see if you can see what went wrong. Ill never tell someone that they shouldn't try to learn, just saying that if you aren't experienced than please don't assume you will be able to do it easily. Rebuild one before you need it and give it a try, that gives you the chance to make sure it works without leaving yourself without the runner for a while.

Even so it would be very interesting to know of where to buy an good or OEM master kit for the auto trans. Here in Brazil it is expensive as hell both parts and the rebuild labor. So people tend to import the master kit themselves because it gets here a lot cheaper and then paying for the labor.
Speaking for myself, I would like to bookmark a good store or good ebay vendor with such master kit for when the time comes...

Thanks for your advice guys but i just wanted to know if there was a good kit out there, for both engine and transmission. I am not saying i am going to do it myself i just want to buy the parts.
The reason is, i have a really good friend who is a great mechanic, he worked at VW in Mexico for many years and now he has his own transmission shop in Baja Mexico, The parts in Mexico are super expensive.
Next summer i am going to be spending about 3 months in Baja Mexico and i am goint to be driving my 4runner there so it could be a good time to get it rebuilt since i don't know when would i be going back and here in the states labor is super expensive.
So.. Again does any body know of a good master kit for engine and for transmission?

if you trans if working now there is no need to rebuild it. Rebuilds do NOT last and even in the states often come with only a 1 yr warranty. If your 4Runner's trans is running at 85% with very minimal slipping then just drive it till it dies. It may run like that for another 5 yrs, there is no way to predict its lifespan. I am at 206k on the original trans. I doubt you would want to premptively rebuild it.

Probably cheaper to just buy a used one with under 100k or something than rebuild. I'd switch to synthetic fluids if you want make it last longer. I'm about to switch all my fluids to synthetics, both diffs, transfer case, trans and motor. Its gonna cost me around $500 to switch everything.

Cool thanks for the input, just wondering why do you say rebuilds do not last? I tought a rebuild would get the transmission to factory specs.
Any ways thanks, i will follow your advice and just use it until it dies.
How about Motor rebuilds would they last? My motor is running very strong right now so i won't mess with it either just wanted to have some future reference.
