Experience with sliders and expanded steel mesh

Hi guys
Im about to order some sliders with kickout from 4xinnovations. Adam has given me the option of welding mesh in the gaps to make them more useful as a step. (Kids in near future etc) Is anyone running this mesh on their sliders? Is it a bit%% to paint and keep rust away? Do the edges of the mesh where its welded scratch you leg if you rub it getting out? I found some BAMF sliders with this done but not much else. Any pics or info would be great.

If you fully weld it, all the edges , it won't snag on clothing. Use a stainless expanded steel and you won't have to worry about rust.

I ended up going with solid diamond plate like this:

If you do it, don't just put the mesh on top of the sliders, that will leave exposed ends to catch things on. Have them set the mesh "down in" a little into the openings. This provides a much cleaner look.

Also, there are two kinds of expanded metal: regular and flattened. Regular has sharper edges, but provides more grip, and flattened is smoother.
