I converted many of the repair write ups to PDF a long time ago, just in case. Let's face it: This forum has covered every possible mechanical issue that can happen to 3rd gen 4Runners, and the 3rd gens are getting pretty old, and the Pepsi Generation has an increasing preference for videos. All of the old-style forums are in slow decline, even if the content is excellent as with toyota-4runner.org.
I wonder how many GB of data the entire forum comprises?

I hope it doesn't die off. In my experience the Internet Archive doesn't do good archiving vBulletin forums like this one. It's always missing links, pages, etc.
It makes me wonder if I should personally run some kind of archiving script just to be safe.

Funny...I was just thinking the other day about asking on FB or Reddit what forums people were using for 4runners, because I feel t4r is borderline unusable with all the ads and glitches.
Would like to not have a full screen ad for "visceral fat loss" or "early alzheimers" pills every time I hit the back button.

I find reddit to be a bit incompetent and inexperienced beyond extremely well known problems. This forum has information I can find nowhere else, and that makes me very worried.
The other forums are too new to have extensive 3rd gen sections, and 3rd gens are too old and uncommon to regenerate that knowledge. If this forum goes, so does most of the information on 3rd gens and older.

I can't stand reddit, and especially not facebook gorups for cars. Sounds like kids asking the same 4 questions, and adding an irrelevant "pic for attention".

The reddit/fb group crowd is a little too smooth brained for my liking, I prefer coming back here to my fellow mensans after reading 20 reddit posts of some dudes in the south who rolled over in a ditch going down a straight dirt road at 80mph with original LBJs.
That being said outside of IH8Mud the majority of forums I've frequented are more dead than this or just gone altogether.

We're trying to keep it alive guys, but Admin is nowhere to be found. We've been voicing our concerns for years now; 100's of pings, messages, etc etc.. Nothing gets him our way to help with the ongoing site issues and help we need that moderators don't have access to.
They're clearly paying the bill(s) to keep the lights on, but that's all we know.
My advise is to take what you need, archive it into PDF's or whatever format for your own keepsake, and just hope for the best.

This entire platform needs upgraded badly. Granted, The information here would be great to archive as a lot of it is priceless. However, this is what happens when rigs get old hitting 30 years since first year of mfg. I would love to see it preserved and just be here for information data if nothing else. Plus the forum setups is older technology as well. Would need a major upgrade and seems to be having more and more issues as of late. :-(

don't think there is anything any of us can do. There's only handful of mods left that frequent the site, including myself, and none of us can get Admin help.
Unless you have A LOT of money and give the owners an offer to buy it that they can't turn down, I think we're just here to ride it out.

Unfortunately I think this software is so old that even if the owner wanted to upgrade the forum he may not be able to find software that would be able to salvage and extract all the topics, posts and info from this old software.

Just a head's up - install the free Ublock Origin ad-blocker and at least you can view the site while it's still up with zero ads. I used to tolerate a few sidebar ads to help the admin pay the bills, but it got completely out of control. The site now operated to serve ads, not vintage Toyota enthusiasts, so I have no guilt blocking them all.
I still find the site useful because I never had the patience (or aptitude?) to become a fully self-sufficient wrencher. I very much appreciate the thankless job the mods who are still present have done up to this point.

A lot of the 1988-1999 Mitsubishi 4g63T Forums disappeared aswell or became a ghost town, they are still hosted like DSM Tuners, EVO and DSM UBB Canada but pretty quiet.
And T4R came online the same year as Yotatech which still has a ton of info, but for most of us this info is already ingrained after 25 years of ownership, I'm currently doing a manual locking hub swap and completed a full-on valve adjustment changing every single shim last winter, you won't get that detail from forums or videos, and a dealer won't do that kinda work let alone take it on, Ive seen very few do 5vz-fe valve adjustment properly on youtube.., fun stuff and a week waiting for shims, forums are great till they gone so learn now.
