That's a pretty cool kit. Since I already have the housing wrench and I use a soft drink bottle to push the plastic thingy into the housing which catches the oil from the housing all I'd really need is the screw in funnel which looks very handy. They sell it separately for $17 Engine Oil Funnel for Toyota, Lexus, and Scion Vehicles with Threaded - Motivx Tools

DIY Engine oil funnel: If you use quart bottles of Mobil 1 oil, cut just the bottom off of an empty bottle so that the bottle forms a "funnel" and screw the threaded top of the bottle (where cap was) into oil filler neck on the engine. Threads are a perfect fit, you can reuse the homemade funnel and it doesn't cost $17.

I do not know if other oil brand bottles have the same size neck as Mobil 1, but this works well for me.

Yeah, the whole Toyota oil change thing is another of the few reasons I miss my '20 Rubicon. It's filter was super easy to get to and the oil change could be done in 15-20 minutes with zero mess. But with the 4Runner, I just plan on setting aside an hour of "me time" and go out there and get it done. I enjoy wrenching on vehicles so the extra time is not a problem. The mess on the other hand is rather annoying. Toyota makes a great vehicle but they should also learn to make them more likable in terms of maintenance and up-to-date technology.

Yeah, I just did my first oil change as well. Whoever did it last must have really torqued the filter housing on. The bottom nut was on so tight it was spinning the whole housing and wouldn’t come off. Thought I would break something so I a hit it with my impact and it came right off. Then had to muscle the filter housing off with my hands. Just about killed me.

Ordered the filter housing wrench now...

My wife’s VW is much easier to change the oil on. Filter is front and center in the engine bay, drains itself as you remove it. No skid plate removal to drain either.
