Flickering Battery Light

This morning, I found my battery light to have come on. However, it quickly went away after driving out of the neighborhood. When I got to work, I ensured that the plug in the back of the alt was plugged in well and did not notice any corrosion or breakdown. Started back up, with no light noticed. As soon as I placed the 4Runner in R, light came on. Placed it in D and drove and was on until about 10-15 mph or so. Then light went off.

Bad alternator since the RPM's increase causes the light to go off?

Not sure really what could cause this? I will test more with multi-meter to ensure that both battery and alt are working.

Thoughts????????

very loose belt is one option, but IM going for an alternator. to me that is your symptoms.

the most common thing is brushes, and they are easy to replace. Lots of write ups, even a video by mtbtm

My light started coming on a couple months before the alternator went out on me in traffic. I'd get ahead of it so that doesn't happen to you.

I had this happen to me. I took it apart. And the brushes were bad. Replaced it with OEM brush. It's good now.

It only took 30 mins for the whole thing and like $15. Cheaper then buying new alternator.

anyone have the Toyota part #'s handy for the brushes, 2000 4runner

might just throw a set in for preventative
