Fuel Milege Questions

Ok Guys and Gals here goes. I am driving an 04 Runner with 71,000 miles. V8.
I cant seem to get better than 12-14 mpg mixed 50/50 highway, city driving.
The only mods are TRD dual exhaust, K & N drop in air filter and Revo's.

Is anyone else in the same boat as I am.

I just had the plugs changed and see no improvement.

It doesn't look like your tire size is stock. If you have a bigger tire then fuel mileage can suffer.

May be worth a top engine clean, or at least clean the throttlebody and do an injector clean (injectors can be flushed, too). Also, make sure your K&N isn't over-oiled. This can not only affect performance and mileage but can damage the MAF sensor.

The quality of gas you are running can have a big mileage impact, too.

Then there's that lead boot on the right foot which is great for a smile, but bad for mileage.

A couple things come to mind:
1) Try the Revos at 38-40psi, it's ok. The sidewall allows for a max inflation of 44psi.
2) :soapbox: K&N filters... Proper care is a pain and so necessary. The other thing is the oiled filter can contribute to a gunked up air flow (air mass) sensor. Have you cleaned that lately? If you've been running that K&N for a while and as part of servicing the filter you used a touch too much oil you air mass sensor is due for a cleaning.
3) A cool exhaust on a V8 Runner??? I could never keep my foot out of it, I'd have to blame 12-14mpg on me:zoom:

Some valid points, I have cleaned the k&n and the MAF, I was going to temporarily try a stock air filter and see what the results were. The exhaust sounds great, but even when I try to drive without the lead boot for the cool exhaust sound the milage is always in the tank.

Tire pressure... Revos are great tires but do have an adverse affect on MPG especially under 38psi.

Next, have you owned from Day1? We have a truck at our company that for some unknown reason the previous owner felt the need to put in splitfire plugs. At 50k it was running like crap and everyone assumed it had the stock 100k plugs in it. After we figured that out no more issues. People do goofy stuff...:bash:

Finally, try an ECU reset. You'll have to reset the clock, radio stations and re-initialize the sunroof, re-window etc.

I have a brand new 2008 V6, and my wife averages 18-19mpg. Not that I care about a couple mpg's, but I don't understand how people get combined 20+. Must have a feather foot....lol

I too am not getting the best gas milage. My 03 V6 is getting 17.6mpg. It is hard to drive like a grany with a good exhaust. I think the gas mix fluctuates alot and changes mpg's. 2 tanks ago i was getting 19.5 with no change in my driving habits. I have since replaced my air filter, cleaned my mass air flow sensor, changed the oil and checked tire pressure. no change??

oh yeah,
If any one wants to clear the ecu, you can do it by pulling the EFI-1 fuse under the hood.
No loss of radio stations or time.

Also, what do you guys recommend for cleaning the MAF? Isopropyl Alcohol with a q-tip?

Don't know if the engine fuse will do it on a 3rd gen.

I do know CRC and others make MAF cleaner. I get it from Advance Auto or Auto Zone, I forget which one. It comes in a can like carb cleaner but formulated to be safe for the precious metal and plastics of the MAF sensor.
