Good deal on a 1997 4Runner?

$3100 is a steal...pretty much anywhere! I would CarFax it, and if the history checks out & the rust isn't too bad, go for it!

All the items on the list you posted are no big deal--and you're likely to find another 4R for twice the $$ that needs the same stuff done!

Don't put too much faith in "Carfax", it is just this side of a scam.
Carfax in many cases is utterly worthless.
Some things show up that are not true, many things don't show up that should.

Best thing is to find a very good and trusty mechanic and have him go over with a fine tooth comb.

For $3100 that sounds like a deal as long as you fix all the listed problems and probably replace radiator and ball joints for under $3000.

I agree with the others, it's a good deal. All that maintenance is common and routine so I would go for it! The leaky rear axle seal probably means you need new brake shoes because the oil ruins the brakes for good - they can't be cleaned. but the rear brakes are still an easy job and not very costly.

take the pads off and Soak them in acetone. It takes the oil right out, and they will be good as new.
