Has a heavy key ring of keys and remote caused damage to your ignition switch or others? I was warned that my 4 keys and remote were not advised. I have seen 10-12 rings of keys that I feel would be an issue. I have had 1-2 bad switches with 6-7 keys and no remote (since 1964). I considered my problem 10-15 years of age.

Not to one of my vehicles because I carry very few keys and attachments but I have seen where a friend had well over a pound of stuff and it wore hers out quickly

The key for my '88 4Runner was worn down because the previous owner had quite a few keys on his ring.

The ignition was fine... Just had a replacement key made and all was good.

Never any issues at all and I typically have 12 keys with remotes. Sounds like you got some bad advice to me.

I've heard that. I only have the one key on there, all the rest on another split keyring.

You should see all the crap my wife has on her key ring - it's never caused any problems.

I know manufacturers advise against having too many keys/things on your keyring as it could cause issues later down the line. But we haven't seen this issue too much with Toyotas (though GMs are notorious for this even before the "recall" ) Though I think it takes a long while for any problems to show up and usually it's the key that seems to wear out faster than the cylinder.

i just keep house keys on one ring and my forklift and truck keys on another. main reason because of the sound all the keys would make on the trail

Mrs Barefoot keeps a bunch of keys on her key ring. We had a '90 Camry wagon (from new) who's ignition switch was acting up when we got rid of it at 210K miles. Her daily driver now has push button start, so it doesn't matter.
