I am relatively new to the 3rd Generation 4Runners, having got my own '96 just this past Fall; so have there been any well known factory recall notices regarding our 3rd Gen 4Runners for which I need to visit the local dealer to confirm whether or not mine was taken care of under any such recall?

They are somewhat identical. They report all recalls for your vehicle.
