Help an African newbie

G'day, just become the proud owner of an ex-Japan 2006 Surf and could use some advice from the experts.

Vehicle is RHD version of 4Runner and is base model (manual seats, no cruise control etc) with 4 litre V6, 5spd auto box and switchable 2WD/4WD.

4WD is engaged by rotary knob on dash which offers 2WD/4WD/4WD low range. Also fitted is lockable centre diff.

I like the power, and drive a lot on dirt roads, so would prefer to use 4WD most of the time on and off the highway because a 4WD drift is infinitely preferable to a 2WD spin-out!

So the big question is: will leaving 4WD engaged bugger the central diff?

And if anyone has an emailable owners manual I will be eternally grateful.

nope, you can drive all the time in 4wd, without the center differential locked....
i suggest you switch it into 2wd mode every once in a while to keep the whole system free

As earthrealm mentioned you will have no problem running in 4wd full time. Just leave the center diff unlocked. You will effectively have a AWD 4Runner, I ran my 4Runner in 'AWD' mode for 100's of miles in the deserts of the SW USA.
