hitch mounted cargo boxes

Hi All,
I was wondering if anybody has used the hitch mounted cargo boxes that thule makes such as the 665c or the terra spin as seen on their website? http://www.thuleracks.com/carrier_luggage2.asp?location=3
Or if anyone has anything similar that would be great to hear about as well. I already have roof rack mounted model but need something easier to load for my wife because she is short and I don't want to buy a minivan or sequoia.

I have seen them on the road. Sometimes they have a place in the back to put your tag on. They look shrap, pretty expensive though.

I have a hitch carrier with two rubber maid boxes from Home Depot or Lowes. The thing I like about a hitch carrier is that the mileage isn't affected as much as a roof rack, I guess because of wind resistance.

Thanks for the post. My wife is expecting our first in April and I was thinking that the encosed one would work best to put some of the larger items in. I may end up going with what you have. Just depends on what I need to transport to visit family during the holidays.

I use a hitch rack and then you will see on the other thread the waterproof softside bag I got from Cabelas. Works great and the best part I can still open the back of my 4runner with the waterproof bag on, just have to pull back a little, but this is great for those times you need to get in the back with the carrier on of course you can roll the rear window down as well. The Thule carriers are nice use to sell them back in the day, they are lockable so they provide more security than just a bag etc.

1. they are pricey
2. They can be bulky to deal with when you want to store them.
3. you are limited by the predefined size of these hardsided carriers. I.e. with just a hitch carrier you could put your lawnmower on it to take in for repair, etc.

Thanks Bucky. I remember reading your posts once I opened them up but I forgot about that bag from cabela's. That is a whole other option that I hadn't considered. If I get a hardsided case then I will get some pictures up so everyone can see how it works.
