Hunger Valley SVRA?

A buddy and I are currently looking for a place to go camp and wheel a bit for the 4th and I saw that Hunger Valley was only a few hours from me. Has anyone been there? How is the wheeling and what kinda terrain is there? How is the camping? Any input about the place is appreciated.

From the videos I saw it seems like they have go-fast desert type stuff and some rocks.

Also if anyone has any suggestions of a place to where I could camp, wheel, and hopefully light off some fireworks let me know! I am currently located in San Luis Obispo, CA and looking for places within 5 hours of me that isnt Hollister Hills (from San Jose, been there too many times).

Hungry Valley is really hot during the summer but if you stay at higher elevation on Alamo Mtn it's not too bad. It's mostly a motorcycle and ATV area so not as many truck trails.

You'll get a map from the ranger when you go in, there are quite a few trails ranging from go fast, to canyons, to oh shit that drop is going to kill me. You can camp in HV, but I wouldn't suggest lighting fireworks anywhere in any kind of campground or off road designation. Everything is really dry and it wouldn't take much more than an errant flower spinning the wrong way to light an entire mountain on fire.

I've been wheeling and camping there several times. It's been a motorcycle mecca for decades, but I've found plenty of challenging 4x4 trails. When you get the map from the ranger, look for Pronghorn trail. Super fun trail with a solid challenge up a steep, tippy rock that makes me pucker a bit. You can camp at the top of Alamo mtn for free, which is another fun drive. There's also a 4x4 practice area with a wide range of challenges.

However...I do not recommend fireworks here. Pretty sure they're not allowed anyway, but I could see that mountain going up in flames pretty easily.

You need to reserve a camping pass a month ahead for Pismo in the Summer, plus it will be just wayyyy too packed for 4th of July weekend.

thats why i tend to park the truck, ride my bike and hang locally. It's also easier to find my way home...:fro:
