Yeah, I don't know that buying another "value" 4Runner would be in your best interest. Assuming nothing else is really wrong with this one, might be worth it to fix/replace the engine. Otherwise, you may be getting rid of one problem and buying into another.

Yeah, I don't think a new engine should run you just under the cost of a new 4runner, it should be significantly less. The down time could drive you to have to get something else, but cost shouldn't be what drives you there.

I would probably junk it. A rebuilt is around 2-3k but things like the cat converter and 02 sensor will be trashed which can be a pretty expensive part too. Maybe put the money down on a decent $8000 dollar car.
