*Idiot* Poured A Little Engine Oil in Auto Transmission...What Now?

Checked my transmission fluid level today after changing it all out for Amsoil yesterday and it need to be topped off a little. I stupidly grabbed my Amsoil engine oil container which looked just like my ATF container and poured a dab in. Only a little (1-2 oz) got in as I realized the mistake i made when i saw the gold fluid instead of red fluid. Do I have to flush my whole transmission system again now?

It'll be fine. If it was a quart or more I'd say drain and fill, but an ounce or two won't matter in the least.

Good to go man. Next time you do the engine oil, drain the trans and refill. I do that on my wife's Subaru. Keeps the fluid fresh so I'll never do a flush. Fluid is bright red every time I check it. Mark those bottles!

Guess I'll be the one to completely disagree. automatic transmissions need to be absolutely clean inside. There is the possibility for seal damage or swelling from the exposure to oil which they are not designed for (I also saw someone that put engine oil in their power steering fluid. It was an ATF based system, and not long after did it start leaking everywhere) . Also keep in mind that the clutches and bands inside can be contaminated with oil. The oil can cause these parts to stick, resulting in some odd shifting etc. It's also like getting brake fluid on a brake shoe... you really can't get it all out. It can also do the same to your shift solenoids (or valve body. it's worse in those) by inhibiting flow and affecting line pressure.

These things are incredibly sensitive... this is why the fluid absolutely has to be clean.

Engine oil is a lubricant.
ATF is a hydraulic fluid.

Did you run the car at all? If not, I'd dump new atf through it, get some cheap stuff and run it through with the plug open for a bit, then get new stuff in there.
