Interior Dome Lights Flashing After New Battery

I recently noticed that my interior dome lights will flash when I remove the key from the ignition of my 4th Gen v8. There's also a faint hum from around the instrument cluster when the lights flicker.

Sometimes they flicker rapidly, and sometimes the flicker slowly. I feel like I'm a character in Stranger Things and that someone's trying to communicate with me from the beyond!

Around the same time I installed a new battery from Costco, so I'm wondering if I either got the wrong battery, or need to reset something after the install?

Most likely its completely unrelated to the battery swap.

12v battery are all compatible for the most part, the group size and various options are more to do with physical fitment than anything else.

The different groups and such are not just for physical fitment. The battery has to have enough cold cranking amps to start the engine its attached to. Bigger engines require bigger batteries to start. Which is why you'll struggle to jump start a truck with a small car.

I purchased a new battery with 700 cold cranking amps (CCA's) which is more than the stock battery, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Also, the lights only flash when I remove the key from the ignition and open the door, thereby activating the interior lights. They don't flash when I initially approach the car and open the door - or at any other time for that matter.

They also flash at different intervals every time. Sometimes they're fast intervals and sometimes they're slow.

The other thing that recently happened is that I discovered that a mouse started chewing through the insulation on the firewall as well as the interior cabin air filter. Perhaps they also chewed through some wiring as well?

Not to sound like a downer, but after reading recently about the lady and her kid that died from hydrogen sulfide inhallation from a mis-matched battery, im hesitant to venture out of spec. Granted the battery was under her seat, and there is a lot of information missing, but that battery wasn't happy and they were both 12v. I think there may be more to a battery than just wattage and CCA. I do hope more info comes out about it.

Sounds like it might be the switch/button thing that activates the lights when the door opens. Wiggle it and push it in and out and see if you can repeat what you are seeing. Is it just when you open the drivers door? What if you open another door at the same time? Does the flashing stop? If so, definitely the door jamb switch.

I replaced mine for similar symptoms, pretty easy to pop off and cheap too. Here's a link to what I ordered.

Did you try keeping Eggo Waffles in the car?
