Back in the day, JDM engines and transmissions were a crapshoot. Some good, others not so much. The claim then was that they all had 30k miles.
According to friends still in consumer automotive repair, the claims these days are usually around 75k miles. Then as now, there is no way to verify those mileage claims. JDM engines and transmissions are still a gamble.

It's a used transmission, probably out of a wrecked or rusted truck. No different than ringing up LKQ or going on car-part and having a junkyard ship you over a transmission. There's nothing wrong with that though, and if a rebuilt transmission isn't in the cards and you're doing the work yourself I'd go for a good used one from a local yard if you can. The transmission swap takes at most 1 day with the proper tools so it's not a huge time investment.

Do these folks that naysay the JDM stuff have actual first hand experience?
I find it odd folks are ok with buying a 20 year old rig with 150k+ miles on it but not ok with a used tranny or engine.
And their claimed point of concern is the mystery of the parts past, and some are hit and miss.
Like anyone knows anything about the past history of a 20 year old rig and used Toyota’s are never hit and miss.
In my mind a motor or a tranny is much easier to look over and much less risk than an entire used rig. I’m clueless as to why folks are so nervous about mystery mileage, but ok with 150k+ mystery miles.

I don't know about anyone else, but I'm a former Master Tech that worked at a Toyota dealer and various independent shops. I dealt with plenty of JDM engines and transmissions at one time.
My comments are based on my experience, and those of friends and former colleagues who are still in the game.
Just like a used vehicle, they are a gamble. However, if a used vehicle is running and driving when you go to buy it, you have a much better idea of it's condition than you do of just an engine or trans you might buy, but won't know how or if it runs/works until after going to the trouble of installing it/them in a vehicle.
A JDM engine you can remove a valve cover and the oil pan (if the seller allows you to) to get some idea of the engines condition. A trans is bit more difficult to ascertain it's condition without a complete teardown.
The point is they are gamble. Do your due diligence.
