Just Purchased New 2005 T4R, need advice

Just switch to a new 2005 4 runner with 100k Miles on it. The truck has been very well taken care of. The owner only has records of oil changes and is not sure what other service has been done. I have a few questions.

Does anyone have any recommended service at that interval, changing fluids, replacing parts, etc? It runs perfect, but it did need a new belt which I did

How strong is the 4x4 when these trucks get up there in mileage? I would like to take the truck into sand or maybe some trails but I am nervous with the age of the motor and drivetrain? Can someone reassure me

Does anyone know inexpensive ways to increase the MPG/HP? IE Intake, Exhaust, Chips?

Thanks

Create an account at Toyota.com. Input the vin number. Any work done by a dealer will show up in the maintenance section.

Toyota.com also has the detailed recommended service interval chart.

A well maintained motor can easily hit 300k (tundra solutions.com has guys that have over 500,000miles on their trucks) . Strong? Our company Tundra with the same V8 as the 4Runner just turned 208,000. Runs as good as 25k.

The mpg topic has been covered a ton here in the past. Several threads on it.

Is it a v8 or v6? V8's have a timing belt which I would replace since its about 100k miles or so you think. V6's have a chain so you should be good.

If you don't wheel often engage the 4x4 for a couple miles to keep things running smoothly. Also, engage 4lo on dirt or sand to keep the solenoid from getting stuck if its rarely used.

The drive train is plenty beefy enough to handle some rocks. Start adding some bigger tires and lift and it'll strain it out some but you should be fine.
