long time lurker 1st time poster. i have came to this forum since january 06. we purchased 06 sr5 4wd silver, in july 06 brand new. did research on here before hand and have come back numerous times to find out info, bag holder on back of center arm rest and today i found out the back window goes down with remote but doesnt go up. it's my wife's daily driver. i drive it whenever i can, to camp, hunting and every other time she doesnt have it. she loves it. this was my first venture into foreign vehicles. traded POS 00 ford explorer in on it. best decision i ever made. outstanding veh, routine maint. just replaced factory brakes at 58k, she has 68k now. she's been pampered. all stock, she loves snow and mud in awd. had her off roading a few times. she just made trip from pitts to erie in after xmas storm and was making her own tracks on 79. so the dilemma is this, last friday after dinnthe new oner we are stopped at light near our toyota dealership. i look over and see a 5th gen black limited certified. we take it for a drive, we both fall in love, heated seats, all the new tech gadgets, back up camera etc. i want to buy it. mom says no let's keep ours a little while longer:ballchain: today i approach the subject off it and she says "what does that 4runner forum say about the new ones." arty: i said i am a lurker, not a member. much to her dismay. so i joined. lol. and by the way thanks, i told her the forum all said the 5thgens are great. dont know if she's buying it though. lol.

Traded my wife's 08sr5 in on a 11 trail edition absolutely love it. I just traded my 07 fj in on 08sr5 love it of course. So I'm thinking maybe you keep the 06 and get momma the 5th gen win win:lookout::rockon:

Good luck in your search. The 5th gens IMHO drive much better in cross winds than the 4th gens and certainly better than the 3rd gens. (That's the biggest thing for me I noticed...and how hard it is to see over the hood compared to earlier generations.

My mother ordered one and I hated the new design. But it's grown on me over time and hers has proved to be very reliable. I think a telling sign is that they've been out since 2010 and I hardly see any major issues popping up on these or other forums. I've never felt hers was underpowered (and I'm used to driving my '06 V8), but she doesn't tow with it. One thing I do love more than anything is the interior and guage setup on the 5th gens. Miles ahead of the 4th's.

Just take your time and make sure you get the one you want. To me the Limited's look best in black and the TE's look best in white (i.e. stormtrooper look). Undecided on the SR5's. My mother's is silver and it does a good job concealing dirt. W/ that said, they all look good with a lift, tires, etc.

Can't believe how low of mileage your wife's 06 has. I'm at 117K on my '06 lol.

funny you say that andy, i am thinking of that right now. i have a company car that is free and free gas. so we drive that on trips unless we need the runner. wife drives 8 miles roundtrip to work. so the reason for low miles on it. however, said company is now providing company cars with their decals plastered all over them. still free and free gas, however i dont how much i will drive it even so. i dont want to get rid of 4th gen, who in their right mind would get rid of veh with this reliability and little miles. so i am going to work the idea of keeping 4th gen for me as my toy and her 5th gen as another baby for her to raise and give the 4th gen to the boy who turns 16 in 6 yrs. :dance:
