KDSS worth it?

Some people have added ploy bushings to the swaybar and say they notice a difference in handling.

Better aftermarket shocks will greatly improve the overall ride. Never messed with XREAS myself, but overall I would avoid it as unnecessary complexity and mixed reviews.

You think KDSS is worth it for 60% pavement and 40% off road driving of various degrees? Dealer tells me the suspension on the SR5 Premium should be fine to handle whatever I throw at it as long as I'm not trying to crawl out of a sand pit, but I don't know if I believe him... hoping to buy my 2018 in the next couple of days and am still torn between TRD Premium w/ KDSS or SR5 Premium.

Test drive both, do the research… a lot of info about KDSS and none KDSS just in this thread…. and decide for yourself.

Dealer will tell you many things in order to make a sale….

Thanks - I have driven both multiple times and read through tons of posts, but I still don't see a clear answer. I need a suspension that will hold up to a rutted out dirt road every day - can the SR5 suspension stand up to that?

The axles, links, control arms, etc - all the joints and things that control the wheels are the same. The only difference between KDSS and non KDSS is the sway bars. They will both last equally long on bumpy roads because all the parts that wear out are the same.

The TRD OR models - regardless of KDSS or not - has a range of additional offroad features like a locking rear differential and crawl control. If you're getting stuck on your roads - yes you should choose the TRD OR option. If you're just wanting something that is durable for long term use on rough roads - either will be just fine.

It's hard to nail down what "offroad" means. To some it's a question of can I get down the last mile of XYZ trail once. For others it's a question of whether you can drive down ZYX dirt road for 100k miles without breaking down. The first question - the TRD OR/Trail model will outperform an SR5. The second question - they'd perform the same. Both are equally durable and reliable. If you're not worried about getting stuck - go for the SR5 and spend the money you save on some high end shocks/springs for a more comfortable ride and you'll be a lot happier.

One difference is the LCA's which are different between KDSS & non-KDSS. Other then that, I believe everything else you mentioned is the same.

If main concern is “will hold up to a rutted-out dirt road every day?” then the answer is: SR5 suspension will hold up as good as trail with KDSS or without it.
As all suspension parts (with exception of thicker sway bar with KDSS) are identical when comparing those models.

On the side note: TRD Pro trim will give you better off-road shocks vs all other trim level, so as far as “hold-up” part, I would assume that TRD Pro shocks should outlast SR5 and Trail shocks.
