Lateral Rod ?'s

I had my lateral rod behind the rear axle off for some grinding and painting in the area, and now the bolts are giving me grief.

I was off-roading on Saturday and it got a bit loose and made the rear end sloppy and let it squeak and bump. I tightened it and now it seems to be sticking and letting go with a loud ping.

Basically I guess I need to find the right amount to tighten it, but I was wondering if it is handed? I got it all swung around when I was cleaning it and I'm not sure how to tell if there is a right and left side. I figure the torque on the bolts means squat if it's on "backwards".

Tighten it some more. The is no orientation for the pan hard bar except for the 2wd models that have a brake proportion valve attached to it.

Yeah, I have had the same exact thing. Mine was loose and was knocking. I still have a knock even after tightening it, but I am not sure it is the panhard. I am replacing my panhard soon though as mine is bent, so we'll see if that helps.

Cool. I know exactly where the sound is coming from because I got my wife to drive forward SLOWLY while I kept my hand on the joint.

It felt like it was the front sway bar link because that's where the foot feels anything happening through the frame, but it still did it after I replaced that yesterday (it was toast anyway).

I got rid of the ping.

I took the bar off and checked the bushings, and one side had more rubber, so I switched it around. I figure that 10+ years have made the bushings happy where they were and that I had switched them around. Then I tightened the bejeezuz out of them. Problem solved.

Wouldn't mind putting new bushings on in the future for the hell of it.

Sorry to zombie-revive this thread, but are the Lateral Bar's bushings the same as the lower control arms' bushings? Because I've got two extra lower ones and I'd love to get new bushings into the lateral.

It's called a track bar or panhard rod in the automotive world.

they are different ,can any one measure them and get replacements I'm striking out..they are smaller.
