Double Aught

New member
Hello,

Just picked up my first 4runner an hour ago. I was a Land Cruiser guy (1969 FJ40, 1991 FJ80) a while back and just switched back to Toyota after owning a 2001 Audi S4 Avant for a few years.

Boy what a difference it is between a S4 that is 3 inches of fthe ground to a 4Runner with a 4" or so lift! I used to fall in and crawl out, not its the other way around. :)

My newest addidion is a '00 (Double Aught) 4x4 Limited. It belonged to another member on here actually (Tineman06).

A few things I know about it:

2000 Limited 4Runner 4x4
Black with Topaz Metalic trim
Blacked out grille and badges
Badlands Bumper
Tundra front brakes (231mm) w/ brembo rotors
Sonoran Steel front suspension with toytec differential drop
FJ80 rear springs
Bilstien 5125's
Clear corners
Deck plate mod
Hella's
265/75 BFG's

It was a long road in deciding on a 4runner. my research started with looking at more S4-like AWD's like Muranos. Then moved to Crew Cab Frontiers, then outbacks (I hate them), then Mitsubishi montero sports, then xterras, then back to frontiers, then to Explorer Sport Tracs, then back to xterras, then a BJ60, Then an FJ55, and finally the 4runner. It was the clear winner.

Glad to be here, this seems like a great forum from the research I have been doing (thanks for the great guides BTW).

Hopefully I wont have to be on this forum researching problems as much as I was on the Audi forum. :)

Oh here is a pic (one of Tineman06's)

Welcome indeed. I think I see more people coming from Audi than any other car maker by a long shot.

Are they that bad really? I think the B6 S4 quattro are the most awesome cars ever..

Thats pretty funny. Makes sense though.

The 4Runner LTD is like a roided out S4 avant. More of everything except luxury, grace and agility. You know is still there somewhere but its completely hulked out. Dont make 4Runner angry...you woulnt like it when its angry.

And yeah, the PO took great care of it. I had to throw the running boards back on. My wife is 5'2" and I wanted to be able to reach my ski's and packasport in the winter.

Next "big project" for me is finding a decent set of amber fog lights to hook up to the OEM fog wires. I kind of want to ditch the DRL's too. But I bet I can find lots of info on how to do that here. Then maybe a winch (why not it has a place for it), then a basket for the roof, then a LED conversion the...oh crap here we go again. :)

They are not that bad in the sence that they have just about as many things go wrong with them as any other car.

Problem is the cost of repair. If you can think of it, it costs $1000 to replace. Thermostat $1000, heater core $1000, timing belt $1000. Last time I went in they said I needed a thermostat and they recommended that while they were in there (with the entire front clip off) they might as well do a bunch of other stuff to the tune of $6,000 becasue it will need it someday. Thats when I tapped out.

Truly though my B5 S4 Avant was the....I wont say best...but definitely the most fun car I have ever driven. I will forever miss taking the onramp to 99 from West Seattle at 50-55 mph . Like a rocket sled on rails. :)

this was mine

I see most people that bash Audi bought a 2.7TT without knowing the maintanece in keeping a twin turbo engine that old actully running.

I have the exact same rig -color and all- and looking forward to see what you add as far as future mods and looks like the previous owner already go the ball rolling for ya lol. T4R.org has been an awesome and very helpful forum for me! You have come to the right place. Welcome aboard!
