Leaking axel seal.....but

So I replaced the axel seal, inner and outer, and it still seems to be leaking. Now it doesn't look like its leaking from the seals but now the axel flange.

I ordered a new axle flange seal and the dam thing just seems like a cardboard.

So I figured Id do a tad of research before taking all that off again. To me it just doesn't seem like this cardboard piece will keep it from leaking.

I'm going to attach a picture of where its leaking from. Its the one labled gasket

Is the axle shaft scarred at all? 100% sure its not a leaking wheel cylinder? Give us a pic of where it's leaking with the drum off. I've had my rear axle apart and pressed new bearings on twice now with new seals. I'm kinda rough on em. You can get the OEM parts from NAPA and they're actually cheaper. Live and learn:happens:

Yeah it was dry at the axle seals. And leaking around that flange ...I kinda just wanted to do a little research before tearing it all apart again.


But I might just go ahead and replace that flange and I can take a picture then

if its leaking at all, its coming through the seal.

Thats not the problem. The flange seal wont change a thing. The axle seal isn't reaching the retainer. Read this

Did you replace the thing thats labeled "oil seal" in that diagram?

Mine was leaking, I changed that, and I haven't leaked a drop since.

The part was about $5.
