Lifter Noise

Hey guys yesterday I noticed that my motor was making a ticking noise on the passenger side. It is pretty loud and I am thinking it is the valve lifters. My motor has 154k miles on it. Has any one else experienced this and also what will happen if I just leave it alone and keep driving it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

are you sure its not the injectors your hearing? the injectors on these toyotas tend to be a little on the loud side

Im pretty sure its the lifters. Thats what a couple of other people have said it sounds like.

I had a ticking caused by a loose spark plug. It sounded like a valve tick but went away once I tightened down the loose plug. I haven't had an issue since replacing the Bosch plugs with NGKs.

I recently had a head gasket replacement on my 1999 4Runner . Since getting it back, I've noticed a new ticking noise that sounds like a diesel engine, specifically at idle. I brought it back to the shop, and I was told that the sound is normal. However, I'm very familiar with my vehicle's typical engine sounds, and this new noise doesn't seem right to me.

They're trying to weasel you out of a proper valve adjustment. Totally not normal. At this point I would be wondering about a lot of things they did. Hope you paid with a credit card.
