Low mileage premium worth it?

Welcome to the 4Runner market. People know what they are and you need to get into a bidding war to get one. Might I suggest a 3.5L Pathfinder as a cheaper bang for buck alternative?

Yeah that's one of the things I meant to mention that factored into my decision making. I've seen some 160-170k mile 4th gens (SR5 and Sports) that were priced pretty close to some of the higher value 3rd gens. It would definitely be better for my usage as a daily/towing motorcycles. But I am budgeting 5-7k. The 3rd gen is attractive to me at those sort of prices, but not beyond. I also like the fact that the 3rd gen is slightly smaller, but the 4th gen is definitely more powerful and better on roads.

Hey man, I don't own any Nissans but I always see people complaining about Toyota prices. I drove an LM002 the other day as well, might I suggest one of those?

If someone is not after all the off-road prowess and pedigree of the 3rd gen I wonder if a 4th gen wouldn't be a better choice.

I have a buddy with one and he bought it with less miles and for less cost than an equally nice 3rd would have been. And honestly for 90% it's great! I had newer tech, is roomy and powerful and nice on the road and still above average off-road. He put a lift and tires on his and it has the limited slip and he has taken it a LOT of places...everywhere I've gone and some neither of us should have. Sometimes the rear lock and my clearance help me a bit more in certain spots but that 4th gen with those minor mods is no slouch and I fully admit I think his is better on-road for sure. Oh and now he has almost 200k on it and has done very little maintenance so they don't give up anything on that front.

So just saying...on the whole I think a 4th gen can in many ways be an almost better vehicle for a lot of folks that are really going to use it daily and they still can wheel! And, they don't quite command the prices of some of the other generations and could offer more value depending on a persons primary goals (though still not cheap per se...what Toyota is?)

I'm not after the superior off-road capability of the 3rd gen. And honestly, I am better suited for a 4th gen in every way (I hunt and fish, but it never involves anything other than driving down a dirt road).

But 3rd gens look so dang classy. I get a smile on my face when I see one going down the road. My dad drove old tacos my whole childhood and I have good memories riding around in one. I have tried to convince myself to get a 4th gen. But I just can't do it. Maybe as the search continues, I'll wear down. A few ladies at work have 4th gens...I need a vehicle soon. My older dog has a leg injury and we can't cart him around in my truck any longer. Hes 80 pounds and its a job to pick him up/put him down. He is not supposed to do any jumping for another 3 months.

The only con of a 4th gen, is I bet insurance is higher. My insurance is pretty expensive. I'm 26 and have a couple of speeding tickets. There's a 4th gen on CL right now. 2004 SR5 4x4 with 158k for 10,500. Right at what people are asking for third gens lol.

Lastly, I just don't like newer vehicles. Even the Tacoma is becoming bloated and ugly. The newest 4runners remind me of small hummers. Every make is starting to resemble each other as well. I sound like an old "get off my lawn" type lol.

Not to mention that they're becoming almost impossible to work on yourself. And on top of that, there's just more and more tech crammed into them. With all the sensors and stuff, I strongly question the longevity of some of these new vehicles.
