Lug Centric wheels on first gens?

Hey all I'm actually working on an 86 truck but this would apply to first gens.

These vehicles are hub centric but also use cone shaped lugs making them partially lug centric as well.

I got some new wheels and the place I got them from didn't entirely check the wheels I ordered for compatibility with the 86. They came in and got mounted and turned out to be lug centric only wheels.

I've looked around the site and the web and there is a lot of mention of not getting a good balance. But my real concern is, are then SAFE? Is there any danger of shearing the lugs off or something because there is no weight being taken up by the hub?

Or does the hub not really play into it other than just for good centering when you do put the lug nuts on?

Assuming I get a decent balance, I'd rather not pay to have the wheels replaced if possible, as long as it's not a safety issue...

It should not be an issue, but you could use hub centric rings. Assuming the wheels are 108mm bore, 108-106.1 rings should fit. I have been using plastic Gorilla rings on my Tacoma for a few years.

if you have cone shaped lug nuts they are not the original or the type that came from factory. Factory lugs are the "mag" wheel lugs with the washer. Yes you can use lug centric wheels but as stated above get hubcentric rings and of course the acorn/lug centric lug nuts. All will be fine.

Yes, I forgot to mention the acorn lug nuts! Good call.

I've had aftermarket steelies on this thing since I can remember. Acorn lugs but also fit perfectly snug on the hub flanges. I'll look for some rings.
