lug stud stripping?

so i recently bought a 2002 4runner with 129,000 miles. i was changing the oil, and started to remove the wheel to access the filter better. on the last 2 bolts, it started feeling like it was stripping. which is weird because i was taking them off. well anyway they looked like they were stripping when i got them off, and when i went to put them back on they felt like they were stripping pretty bad.

is it pretty hard to change those?

also the lug nuts are brand new, from tirerack, when i bought new wheels. they arent oem and they looked to be stripping too. they are acorn style

It's quite possible to have cross threaded the studs which will result in stripping out the lugnut. You can pound out the studs and replace them with new ones, along with new lug nuts if required. It's usually easy to tell when the threads are messed up. If it comes to changing the studs and you feel uncomfortable, put the lug nuts back on best you can and head to a tire, brake, etc etc service shop. They should be able to take care of it.
