I'm confused. You guys actually plan to sell your 4Runners? I've probably saved around $10k by not buying a Pro, and got a much more capable rig in the process by picking and choosing the exact mods I wanted. Granted, wrenches don't frighten me so that helped.

Yes of course, and you made my point exactly. I’m planning to get a more modern rig sometime in the future, so I got the right trim for that. I’m gonna get much more of my money back compared to the alternative. You like modding, and so it makes sense for to not get a PRO. Good for you.

Some of you guys act like a Pro is some uber-collectible non-depreciating asset. It's just a car. They all depreciate. You better not put too many miles on it, and for sure don't take it off road. After all it might get scratched! With used cars it's all about condition.

If you were wanting something "more modern" you purchased the wrong vehicle for the wrong reasons. The beauty in these trucks is they are rugged, reliable, relatively simple, without a ton of tech, no direct injection, no forced induction, etc. etc. It's a truck you can easily keep running for 30 years and/or 500k+ miles if you take reasonably good care of it.

The thing is, people buy the PRO because they aren't likely to modify it (much). The PRO's lack of depreciation is not debatable. It is absolutely the cheapest way to experience a 4runner for those people like me who don't want to tinker with the rig much.

The real money losers are the non-PRO owners who don't modify their rigs.

I have family who bought the TRD pro for this very reason. With a few exceptions, the majority I see are stock. This is completely fine as they are very capable out of the box.

I disagree with your second point, as the kdss variants are also very capable when kept completely stock.

The “real money losers” are the ones who baby their truck for a future owner to enjoy it to its fullest, thinking they made some money on slow depreciation. The reliability is now built in the paid premium so let it serve you by driving you until it’s wheels (or in our case, the paint) falls off.

I bought my Lunar Pro because I wanted something I could use for 5 years and THEN start wrenching on it as things wear out. With the pro and some minor armor improvements (sliders, diff skid, diff breathers, maybe some other skids if I find I need them) I can do the moderately difficult trails and still take the kid and wife camping or on trips on the weekend, etc.

When things start wearing out and it is time to consider replacing the shocks, the kid will be old enough to help me and he can learn how I learned. (like how I am pretty sure I will need to replace the stock gas tank skid sooner rather than later, since it is already getting pretty scraped up).

I am slightly miffed about the color becoming available on everything, but, meh. It is what it is really. I got the color because I liked it (I thought it looked horrible on a rav4, but got to see it on a 4Runner when I went in to talk to my dealer about deposits and fell in love, pictures really do not do it justice). This is a 10+ year vehicle, why worry about what the color being more common is going to do to my resale at this point.

Well crap. Our 2 month old MGM ORP just got A/T tires (Pirelli Scorpions) today. Now I read this and tell my wife, and she's disappointed. She wanted an Army Green 4R, but not a Trail (no heated seats == no deal). I didn't want an SR5 but AG was a color I definitely would have considered.

Maybe I'll buy her a '22 in AG. As soon as I hit the lottery.

Yeah. I feel you. I wanted an AG (non pro) so bad that I bought a Trail, then added the heated/cooled leather seat options. Had I known they would be offering them in a TRD OR in 22 I would’ve just waited.

Do you know if the Bird's Eye View will be available in the Off road Trim?

Just came from the dealer to pick up my Off Road I ordered early April to find the dealer accidently ordered an SR5. They may be able to get me the OR Late July. I am in Canada we only get one TRD Off Road Model but I think it is usually very similar to the ORP. Might be willing to wait for 2022 for the bird's eye view and lunar rock.

Here is what's listed for the Pro and I don't see it in their picture gallery so I don't think it's going to come with it. There is also no options to add it....

Do they know when customers can start ordering from the dealership? Also any word on dual climate a/c controls on the off-road premiums for 2022?

In Canada both my 2020 4runner trd off roads have Dual climate controls.

Unfortunately in the US only the Limited and TRD Pro have Dual Climate Control and only the Limited has memory seats :-(

From my insider source which has been confirm on my end, MY2022 is going to stay the same as MY2021 with only color updates and the Venture being replaced by TRD Sport model. And yes you can get Army Green and Lunar Rock on most of the models except the SR5 trim. Army Green is available for the the Limited trim but no Luna Rock option, for the Pro trim the new color is called Lime Rush.

Does this apply to Canada as well? I'm really diggin the Lunar Rock but I don't think timing will work out for me finding a TRDP this year, so was hoping I could land the Off Road in that colour. From what I see online now though it's only the Trail model that is available in Army Green up here this year.. Hoping that's not the case next year as well for Canada. Thanks for the insight.

I’m in the market for my first ever 4Runner and will make a pro at that. Was tempted for the lunar rock although I like the army green cuz looks like a tank. Though the army green isn’t available this year. I’m new to this scene by the way. Now I have the option to wait and hope these prices normalize. Plus added benefit of being able to choose form lunar rock or army green in the 22s. Good thing this crazy market made me wait.
