Might be leaving 4runner for a Tundra, advice needed

Thanks for talking some sense into me.
Lifted and big tired 4Runner will get the same mpg as Tundra, so mpg not really a factor. Power and towing ability would be needed in the future, so Tundra wins there.
Storage in the Tundra is an issue, but I will pare down the supplies I carry, or put them in the bed somehow.
The Blue Tundra is $22k
The White one is $24k
2008, 1st year of that body just seems to old to me. Love the color and the truck is cherry from what I can see and research from 110 miles away.
I am in a bit of a rush as my 98 4Runner is dying, she needs several thousand in repairs. She gets single digit mpg now.
Leaking rear axle, over 2 years now.
Rear brakes gone due to leaking axle.
Front Tundra brakes warped.
Leaking Power Steering.
Leaking valve covers.
Leaking Transfer case.
Front Tundra struts are shot.
Lower ball joints failing.
Over sized E rated tires need re-balancing with beads, vibrating bad.
It has never left me stranded, and everything works, but she is falling part and its not worth it to me to invest that kind of money into it.
She has been awesome, and on the beach in OBX NC over 3 dozen times in 5 years. Pull people out of ditches every winter here with ease, even full size trucks with rookie drivers. She is unstoppable.
Buying leather seats is not in the budget once I get my first car payment, which this purchase will be.
Again i'm a man of taste, but not wealth lol.
I have been looking since Nov in a 300 mile radius of Northern Va, including Carvana and other delivery options but those are all expensive newer cherry vehicles.
I guess I will go with the 1st white 4Runner limited, or white Tundra Platinum that comes along that is reasonably priced.

I say no way. I got 9MPG in my Tundra.
Still waiting on my lift so I can slap my rims and tires on but I'm getting 22mpg now on the 4R. I highly doubt I'm going to lose 10+ mpg.

Was that Tundra lifted 3" or less with all terrains or trail tires? E rated?
My 4Runner has Tundra struts 1.5" lift and 2" OME rear springs, sagging some, totals about an inch. Trail tires in 285 70 E rated.
I get about 10 mpg in my Runner on a good day.
The Tundra will at least have the power, my Runner is ssslllooowwww lol.
But another Runner is still in the running, depends on what I find first. I do notice all the used Runners I find are stock where some Tundras are lifted or tired already which saves me money.

Why not consider a low mileage 4th gen 4R with a V8? I LOVE mine, very dependable, and if you take it out of auto and manually row through the gears it MOVES.
Mileage wise there is not much difference from the V6 but way more muscle through the power band. Plus, you said financials are a bit of a concern. This would help here as well.

This would be ideal really, even though I like those bodies the least, compared to around 2010-2013.
However finding a white, limited, with low miles, in the v8 years, near enough to me, is pretty much impossible lol.
Also, I have to be able to get financing on it with less then great credit.
Just looked at a 2013 white 4runner limited, lifted, Bilstien's, daystar front bumper and winch, 75k miles. Don't like how the front end is cut up for the bumper, also adds weight and lowers mileage, and no parking sensors. I have no need for this mod either.
The issue here is the bumper, and the fact they want $29,750 for it.

This is a 3rd party used car dealer in my area, just in, not even detailed and repaired yet, clean carfax.
Really like the white 2013 Tundra Platinum in NC. Lifted also, with nice Toyo tires (I like this look) But they want $29k lmao.
It has a split open drivers seat left pad by the door :dammit:

Your argument about not considering a Limited AWD on gas mileage over a Tundra is a bit odd… I also agree with the recommendations for a 4th gen as you still have a 2WD selector. That said, owning both, a 4th and 5th Limited, I don’t miss 2WD. Personally I am happy they at least kept that TC in one of their trim options. It was my main reason for picking it in the first place, very much the opposite of a screw up if you ask me as it fits the mode of operation for most people who buy it, without giving up any real 4x4 capability.
My opinion only, but I much prefer the modern GM / Chevy truck over a Tundra… When it comes to full size trucks, I think Chevy, and even Ford make a better truck.

The Tundra is absolutely bulletproof (like most Toyota's) and pulls a trailer or boat great. The Chevy 1500 isn't even close. It would be worth looking at an ecoboost though.
If OP does get a Tundra I'd get at least a 13-14.

Yea, thats about the mileage I get now with my 4rd gen 98 4Runner.
1" lift and 285/70 E rated tires. It's a gas vacuum and slow as molasses.
I figure I might as well get the power, and towing ability as I hope to get a boat/camper eventually.

Don't want AWD. I know how to drive, don't need it.
Rather have the fuel economy and ability to do donuts heheeh.
More geared for women if you ask me, for carrying the kids in bad weather etc, wife kids are grown and gone (mostly lol)
I would go with the 4th gen if I could find one to my specs, but that's harder then finding a 2010-2013 with my specs!

Domestic trucks are TERRIBLE compared to Toyota's. I sold new Rams recently, also retired mechanic for 20+ years. Domestics are JUNK imo.
They are only good for a HD Cummins TD+Allison trans for towing real big things.
I do like the looks of the newer GM trucks. And Ford trucks? If i wanted an aluminum can I'd go buy a Pepsi lmao. I have seen plenty of those trucks weak-ass frames and beds torn up. Total joke.

No replacement for displacement. Turbo's are for my sports cars and Diesels lol.
Looking forward to getting a nice 20ish ft cuddy cabin boat in a few years give or take to pull behind my white Tundra once I find one!
