Have you seen the new V6 diesels?? It looks like a literal hairball - just a mass of dozens and dozens of hoses and hard lines. You can't even see the engine anymore for crying out loud :help:

Not knowing squat about diesels, that would scare the crap outta me.

There are importers in S. Florida bringing in JDM vintage diesels exempt from emissions, but that market is probably going to be hitting on hard times soon.

The little diesel 4 cyl 2 door BJ74 is really cool, which would most likely be capable of a million miles.

But anyway, back to 3rd gen million milers. Sorry for veering off topic.

I've never felt that bad about not getting a 3rd gen diesel in the US, earlier 4runners I do miss the diesel. The diesels used were fine, but I think they were matched in reliability by the gas engines.

The 1KD-FTV had problems with cracked pistons, it's like the 3vz of Toyota diesels. The 1KZ-TE was better, but it did have some problems too. The increased range would be very nice to have.

It's too late for diesels to become popular here. The last reliable diesels were 2008, after that they were knee capped with emissions stuff. DEF, particulate filters, and SCR systems to name a few. If just one thing goes wrong, your engine is suddenly put into limp mode and you can't do anything until it gets fixed.

If we got a Toyota diesel we wouldn't get that good 1VD-FTV that is (was) used in the 70 series.

Oh, 1 mill mile 4runner? Never seen one. I'm sure the engines are capable, but I've never seen one get there.

It's possible, I've seen a 4runner before that was hovering in the mid 800k range
