Moog fj spring issue?

I had the same problem today when trying to install 81081 moog fj rears on my 05. Tried beating them, twisting them, grinding the edge of perch and even driving over speed bumps but they would not seat.

I pulled them out for the 3rd time and compared them with the old ones. Ended up cutting the last 1/2 inch off of each coil and they slid right in.

I've read about every Moog FJ spring thread I can find about some fitting and some not. I know this is a few years ago so has Moog fixed the problem or do I just hack a 1/2" off the coil to get them to seat?

I'm about to order some Bilstein 5100s, FJ Moog springs front/rear, and maybe I'll replace the front top mounts so I can just assemble the units at a local shop.

After skulking around the FJ forums the last few days I'm still something like 4th in line for a set of actual used FJ springs. I'll roll the dice and just go with the Moog units. They've got to be better than the spongy soft 11 year old rears on my 4runner.

If it were me, I'd try the AC Delco springs. Cost less than OEM but more than Moogs which I've known problems. Seems like a good middle of the road option.

I had a problem with one of my moogs not seating properly. I drove for an entire year with no leveling or performance issues though. I finally realized that if I took the rear tire off, sat the axel on a jack stand, and used a crow bar (I have a 3 footer). The spring popped right in. Lube helps.
