Just bought a 1999 4Runner limited. It's hard to start, once running, runs smooth; Needs rear seals, and a tune up.

At 223,000 on the clock, should I replace the coils also?

Totally what Gerdo says. "change all fluids" means, all fluids: especially front, rear, transfer case (I wouldn't use synthetic), if auto flush transmission, oil, coolant, power steering, and if you have no prior knowledge of brake servicing, bleed the next time you maintain them. I've had a rear end and 3 transmissions fail over the years(not Toyotas!) and the only ways we have of getting the max life out of these components is to service them (keep them clean clean clean) and to not abuse them...unless of course you want to break something! Toyotas are not immune to poor servicing but they're more tolerant than most.... Have fun!

Are they sagging? Are you interested in lifting etc? Have a look at the lift info on this Site, there's tons of info... Even if you don't lift their is tons of info.
I'm not going to lift at this time and I do have sag, therefore, my plan is to replace my rear coils with OME906s which will stiffen things alittle and, I'm told, will reduce body roll. I don't have to replace my shocks yet, as they're still functioning. These coils will give me a 1.5" lift in the rear but as far as I'm concerned that's a good thing. My fronts are okay. I have seen members replace the rear coils with oem but they end up with the same issues...

I just joined as well. I've had a 1997 SR5 since new. 101,000 miles and the car runs great. I use synthetic oil (Mobil) and after 10,000 miles, it still looks amber.
You might think about having your timing belt replaced around 100,000. I did mine at 80,000 and the thing looked brand new.
I'm looking for an Enkei Dm207 center wheel cover if anyone has one laying around.
I've read a lot of traffic about the rough ride. Mine is very rough and always has been. There's coffee stains on the ceiling from going over railroad tracks in the thing. Compared to my 2012 pilot its like comparing a Cadillac to a model T when it comes to the ride.
Aside from that - I still like the car and plan to keep it another 15 years.
