Looks sweet! Were you running 265/75/16 prior to these? Any significant power or MPG decrease noted?

I'm gonna try em out soon, but I'm going to get some 16x7" rimms that have .6" less backspacing than my stocks (going from 4.65 to 4") and that will push them out to where my 285s are now with my stock rims. The track width won't be changed so my COG will remain about the same except for the .25" or so of lift I'll get from the tires. The width of the tires themselves doesn't bother me at all, but I'll bet tread wear will happen faster since there's just more weight per sq. inch of tire touching the road.

Skip this if you don't want to read AWESOME DEAL story: I finally had a chance to go run and put these bad boys on the truck. A couple weeks ago, I started to shop tires because my Michelins were about done. I wanted 255s but was on my way to getting 265/75s. After multiple phone calls to local tire stores (getting quotes for $198 + $15 for mount/balance), I called up one of my local Discount Tires...asked for a quote on the 255 BFG MT2s...he said "today's your lucky day...get down here now". I figured he was just blowing smoke...long story short, I got the tires for $125 a piece with mount and balance included (figure $110 a piece because of free mount/balance). A guy just sold the tires back to DT because he couldn't hear his girlfriend on the cell because they hummed so loud. The guys at DT said they couldn't have more than 500 miles on em (telling by how long ago this guy bought them and their condition). Needless to say, I bought them that day.....$530 out-the-door. They are warrantied as if they were new from DT. Reason so cheap....They've never heard of this tire size. They bought the tires back for dirt cheap becuase they thought they wouldn't ever get rid of them. When I called and asked about that particular tire...the guy almost fell out of his seat.
They are skinny and I love it....it's perfect IMO. Rides great, hum isn't that loud and I don't see a reason to regear....I think there is still plenty of power. They do not rub at all during normal driving....full lock both ways and in reverse. I'll try to get more shots.

Hate to say it, but I agree. The tires are lost under those wheel arches, they just look too small for the lift IMO.

If I could recommend some 1.25" wheel spacers, I think that would improve your stance dramatically and the tire would line up with the fender flares way nicer.
I kinda came off a little d!ck-ish...I didn't mean it that way...I'm a firm believer of 'to each his own', so if it makes you happy, go for it.
I wouldn't use a 9.5" wide tire on my truck, personally. But I also wouldn't run a 14.5" tire either...I'd say somewhere between 10.5 and 12.5 is a good width.
If BFG made a 35x10.5 I'd probably get them, pending test fit at full flex.

They're damn skinny for how tall they are, but they're still 30mm wider than stock (P225/75R15). With the right backspacing, I think they can be a real effective tire for the 4runner. A lot of the expedition style guys run them and love em too. I think they look good personally. I'm thinking about them because when I looked at my 285s against Proudrunner's 255s, they were obviously taller and will give you ~.25" more axle clearance.
There's another thread over on TTORA that another member brought up the fact that you don't need lift to run 255s either. I've also personally seen someone running 255s with no lift on a 4runner (it was a '99 but not all or them are 1" higher) and he only did the same amount of trimming and hammering as we do for 285s and he could fully stuff em without rubbing. I looked at his fenders up close and confirmed. If anything he may have had the tall '99 coils so a 1" lift at the most and no BL either.

Great looking 4runner. Mine happens to be the same color, so now I have an idea what mine will look like as soon as I install my lift. ? about the lift. Did you do it yourself? If so, did you disconnect the upper or lower ball joint or other to install the strut?
Also, you replied that you made your own differential drop. I was wondering how much you dropped it? 1"?

LINY, your comment wasn't ****ish at all....no worries. Just like you said, "to each his own". I honestly think the stance and look is perfect. It does look bigger in person....the pics just don't do it justice.
mike m, I did install the lift myself (with much help from guys at my shop). I disconnected the lower ball joints via the 4 bolts that hold that hold the lower ball joint assembly. That way, you don't have to mess with the actual ball joint (got that tip from Brian2sun....worked great). As for the diff drop, I could've added more drop but still stayed around the 1" area. Just that 1' corrected the ride. I figured....anymore drop may cause damage (since the pros don't offer it and not many people run more drop).
ProudRunner, your truck inspired me to get the 255s. You still have the best looking truck, IMO. But, yeah....the deal was too good to pass up. The tires still have the nipples on the outer tread, every rubber hair and the white letters are still have most of the blue still on them. I told them to keep an eye out for a spare.
Next project may be to paint the rims black. I know silver/black is everywhere in CO and other places but I still don't see much of it here in North Florida. What do you guys think?

You're tires look great man! IMO, I would leave your wheels the stock color, blacked out rims have been done, over and over again. I personally love your wheels!

I just put on the same lift on mine but yours loo so much better. The rear part of my 4runner is higher than the front making my 4runner look like a HOT ROD. Did you put the spacers on the back coils?
