just did mine recently.. it was only like 4 or 5 bolts, the grill out is kinda a pain in the butt, all in all it was easy, all 10mm pretty straight forward, and im no mechanic...

Be sure to first unplug the headlight wiring from each bulb. Now remove the grille. Just use a flat head screwdriver and pop all the tabs to get it out. Now if you are standing in front of the vehicle, looking at the driveside light w/ the grille removed, you should see one bolt at the top left corner of the light. The passenger side bolt is in the same location.
Next, remove both corner lenses. 2 of the bolts are hidden behind these.
To remove the last bolt, I find it easy just to lay down under the bumper and reach up to remove the bottom bolt.
That's it. Now the whole light and mounting bracket will come completely out. From here, if you need to detach the light itself from the black plastic mounting bracket, it should be self explainatory. Just 2 plastic nuts (which are connected to the aiming screws), a metal spring and a plastic pop rivet.
It's a breeze once you do it a few times. Only takes me about 10mins now to remove them both.

You can use a small 10mm socket to adjust the bottom screw. (The bottom screw raises or lowers the beam.) With the headlights installed, simply reach thru the engine bay and tighten or loosen the plastic mounting nut as needed. Very easy.
To move the beam from side to side, you'll need a small flat head screwdriver to turn the "teeth" on the top plastic adjusting nut. This takes time, b/c there's not much room to crank the teeth a lot at once. (To aim this top nut quicker, you could always take the light out of the plastic bracket and adjust it with your 10mm socket. Only problem with that is, you would have to reinstall the light in your 4Runner and see how close you got it.)

Probably not gonna get a response - thread is almost 7 years old.
On the headlight, you can get an aftermarket unit relatively cheap, but the quality of the light pattern isn't as good as OEM. Just make sure it's glass. OEM = high dollar unless you can find a used one in decent shape, but that's not easy.
I can help you out with the taillight, I've got one (OEM) I'll let you have for $25 shipped if you're interested.
