Need some help. engine dying randomly.

I have been searching the forum and havent been able to find someone dealing with a situation similar to mine. Four times in one day my 97 dies at random times. The first was in an intersection. I knew I had a battery that had very little life left so I replaced that. On the next drive it drove fine until I stopped and tried to start it again. It wouldnt start. I thought it was a bad battery cable as my cables had a decent amount of corrosion. Replaced those and the same problem. I was driving down the freeway and it suddenly just died. This time as it died the a/t trans temp, check engine, and engine oil temp lights all came on as soon as it died. After this it wouldnt even start anymore. I checked the fuel pump and there is about 70 psi steady so I know it is not that. I took off a spark plug wire to see if there was a spark and it strange. It wouldnt spark for 8-10 seconds and then once in a while it would spark and the truck would start. I am thinking of replacing coil packs/spark plug wires but am wondering if it could be some kind of sensor that is shorting out or if it is completely different problem. I know this is lengthy but if anyone has any idea what I could do to solve this problem I would greatly appreciate the input. Thanks!

is there any check engine lights that stay on if so pull the codes at the parts store. Dont forget when checking for spark its not like on a single coil distributor engine with sparking a lot your waiting for that cylinder to get to its turn in the firing order. The only sensor thing that would come to mind would be the crank sensor. But check for codes first.

These things have a cps?, direction I would head

Seems like the cps is the next part to try. As far as checking the codes they only seemingly come on at random. Most of the time the check engine will clear itself when the car will start. Also could it possibly be a problem with the MAF?
