What would you recommend for a new battery? Optima just raised their prices $100 after August so a red top is at the bottom of the list, any decent battery that you guys recommend?

i've used the duracell ones from batteries plus and have liked them. had one with a dead cell and it was replaced at no charge.

I have one of the duralast AGMs and have been very pleased with it. Albeit it is much larger than stock. Before that I had stock interstate from costco that was also a very solid battery but began leaking from the lids due to the higher than normal level of vibration it sees in my rig.
 
For the price I run Delco's and Napa's. I like the way it's designed not to upchuck acid like other wet batteries designs.
If your truck sees a lot of off road vibration, or you need a heavier duty battery then I would run a AGM battery like an Odyssey. Other people here say todays Optima's aren't the same as before quality wise.

I wonder what will happen to Diehard once Sears goes out of business. I imagine someone will buy the Diehard name and continue to sell it. Same thing with Craftsman tools.

I am also in the market for a good battery.
 
A LOT of AAA's!!!! Mine came with a crappy Crappy Tire battery put in by the PO, which has actually held up well. I want one that is good with a winch, any recommendations?
 
If you are after a higher end battery, call Polar Battery. They are in Van.

I once priced an Odyssey AGM from them. Should have a better selection than Can Tire.
 
Odyssey PC-1500 34R here, 4.3 years, no sign of trouble, sometimes run the stereo for hours while camping. I'd consider a cheaper AGM next time, but if the difference is only $40 or $50, I'll probably get another Odyssey.
 
2nd that .... get one from Costco.

They currently carry Interstate and you can get the beefed up on ~ 800 CCA for our 3rd gens for around $90 US.

I'm not kidding. I had one go bad at 18 months age and sitting dead for 2+ weeks, went to change it in and they don't even test the battery, cash in hand full refund on the spot. No one does this! Except Costco.

This^. Best batteries out there. I'm at year 8 with mine in my tundra.

Duralast H8 AGM, it needs a custom tie down and bracket but it can be squeezed in. 1000 CCA and 900 below 32. Ive ran the winch hard on mine and never seen it lose capacity and it holds a consistent voltage throughout the pull. Also have ran the stereo for hours and it has shown no sign of even having a draw on the battery.
 
I have been running an Excide AGM in three different vehicles for two years now without any issues. Two of the vehicles are daily drivers and one is a trail rig. All of the batteries start every time I need them to. They are great batteries for the money.
 
The Interstate batteries from Costco are an excellent buy. Great battery for super cheap, plus you cannot beat Costco's return policy.

IMO, unless Optima got their shit together, I will never buy another red top battery. Mine didn't even last two years. It was the worst $200+ battery I've ever bought...

Thankfully I bought it at Costco when they still carried them and got a full refund.
 
When it comes to a battery, find the one with the best warranty and a retailer nearby for exchanges.

Advance Auto batteries are GTG.

And don't go with higher than stock CCA. With high CCA batteries, the plates are smaller which tends to reduce the life of the battery in one way or another.

Every time I compare a AGM battery to a flooded acid battery between the price and warranty and performance I stay with the normal battery except for my motorcycles. I use AGM in the bikes.
