New 3rd Gen Owner from PA

Hello T4R, been on the hunt for a 3rd gen manual for a while now. Happy to join the club. Coming over from a Jeep TJ which I loved dearly, but needed 4 doors and a trunk and have always had a soft spot for 3rd gens. Scored this '99 this weekend, 143k w/ all service records, 5 speed, e-locker, nice leather interior, solid frame and undercarriage. Needs a few minor things but runs strong and plan on it taking me to 300k+ Plan to keep it pretty much stock and just enjoy it for what she is.

Congrats Sawdog.

That is a mighty fine looking T4R you have there. And manual to boot with low miles. It'll last forever with proper maintenance.

How much if you'll share?

Thanks Eddie. I'm in it for less than half of what I sold my Jeep TJ for, including tax and tags. I sold the Jeep for $8k. Looking forward to driving it for years to come
 
:hello: Great looking truck! As the proud owner of a 4th gen, I have no problem saying that aesthetically 3rd gens are my favorite!

From the northeast / Pennsylvania area... and no rust issues underneath / with the frame? Dayumm...

"Solid" is how I would describe it. Wouldn't qualify as rust free out west or down south. Frame rails have some surface rust primarily around the welds but no flaking on either the inside or the outside of the rails. Rear diff and the gas tank skid both would benefit from a wire wheel and paint treatment but overall I'm very pleased. It was sold new in CO and the 2nd owner lived out there a few years before coming to Virginia so it benefitted from spending the first few years of its life there.

Took advantage of last week's snowfalls in PA to exercise the E-locker and 4wd. I suspect the PO rarely engaged either, all is well on both fronts. Good reminder to use them regularly. After striking out at local junkyards for a new rear bumper and not wanting to pay $500+ from Toyota, replaced it with China's finest OEM chrome without much of a struggle. Next I'll need to pop out the antenna motor to remove the broken cable before installing a new one. From my search, a working antenna, clock, sunroof, and rear window on a 3rd gen may be more rare than a 5 speed e-locker :banana:
 
That is rad. Wish the 1999 SR5 Highlander I purchased was a 5 Speed. Truck looks to be in stellar condition and like you my antenna and the clock need fixing in mine.

Thanks all. Rustyspots, feel free to shoot me a PM sometime, I'm in Lancaster but come out your way occasionally.

Mark, I pulled the antenna motor out and removed the broken pieces of antenna cable from it. Motor seems to function well still. Ordered a new antenna from Amazon but the teeth must have been slightly off and the motor didn't stop properly when fully extended so I sent it back. I'll have to buy an OEM or a better replacement but haven't bothered yet as I just pulled the old one up and left it as it. I'll get around to it sometime

As far as mods go, I may have mentioned it earlier but I'm going to enjoy this one for what it is without doing a lot to it. I got most of the mod bug out of me with my last jeep. I've got a set of 5th gen rear springs to swap in to stiffen the rear end a bit and eliminate some sagging when I tow, other than that not much planned for it. I'll eventually but some nice AT's on it but the tires were practically new when I bought it, so I can't justify them yet. So far it's treated me well though (knock on wood)
